Next To Normal is a contemporary musical with an unflinching look at how one suburban household copes with crisis and the effects of mental illness. With provocative lyrics, and an electrifying score of more than 30 original songs, this unique piece shows how far two parents will go to keep themselves sane and their family's world intact.

When this landmark musical debuted on Broadway in 2010, it won 3 Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama – one of only ten musicals in history to receive this prestigious honour. Next to Normal is an intimate exploration of family and illness, loss and grief. At its heart is Diana Goodman, a suburban wife and mother living with bipolar disorder and haunted by her past. The powerhouse score takes audiences into the minds and hearts of each character, presenting their family's story with love, sympathy and heart.

Features a thrilling and original rock score by Pulitzer, Tony, Emmy and Grammy Award winner Tom Kitt and book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Brian Yorkey, this piece is electrifying, heart wrenching and profoundly human.

This unique event takes place with the audience seated on the stage of the Victoria Theatre behind the curtain for a more intimate experience.

HAOS Productions are a local charity dedicated to bringing high quality shows to the people of Halifax. Since 1901 they have produced over 160 amateur productions across Calderdale and their performances have been seasonally featured at our most iconic venues including the Victoria Theatre Halifax. Between their Junior and Senior groups, they provide musical theatre training and the opportunity to perform for local residents from the age of eight upwards.

Featuring local talented performers and musicians, the group that brought to the Victoria Theatre such memorable productions as Shrek, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Grease and School of Rock plus Hairspray, Guys and Dolls, Calendar Girls, Kinky Boots, Ghost, Chess, Titanic and many more, will embrace that magic all over again and is set to wow audiences new and old.
